The word “pivot” is not unfamiliar on a basketball court, but the context does matter. This year CMSI will once again be playing a pivotal role in powering the workflows behind one of sports’ biggest events: Championship Week. With 100% of the games supported by CMSI’s file-based workflows, ESPN is relying heavily on CMSI’s innovative cloud-based media management and editing systems to ensure seamless production from start to finish.
“Because of our fantastic team and extensive experience with live sports, ESPN’s production crews and venues, including their offices in Bristol, CT, and Charlotte, NC, will be able to collaborate smoothly,” says CMSI President Noah Gusdorff. “Our technology, staff, and cloud will be behind every game.”
CMSI and Remote Picture Labs
CMSI is leveraging Remote Picture Labs (RPL), their sister-company and partner in remote editing workflows, to leverage RPL’s private cloud and high-performance workstations to enhance the production process. By combining CMSI’s proven near-real-time acquisition and file delivery pipeline with RPL’s advanced systems, they are able to seamlessly integrate multiple footage sources, including cinema-style ENG cameras, traditional broadcast cameras, and slo-mo cameras for the entire Championship Week coverage. The capabilities shared between CMSI and RPL will allow ESPN to efficiently manage the complex logistics of Championship Week, ensuring that the files are delivered promptly and flawlessly.

“ESPN calls us, and we’re excited to pick up the phone. They continue to rely on CMSI for their most challenging workflows because of the level of scalability and flexibility we bring to the production environment. And our unbeatable, top-notch team doesn’t hurt, either.” Gusdorff continues, “It’s about more than just getting the files where they need to go; it’s about delivering a flexible, robust system that can handle real-time demands. Our full 24/7 expert support gives ESPN the tools they need to cover every angle, and gives everyone involved the expert support they demand.”
Delivering Solutions that Streamline Workflows
CMSI’s work with ESPN during Championship Week reflects its ongoing mission to push the boundaries of production technology and deliver seamless solutions that streamline workflows across the sports media landscape. And in other, equally important news: New work is underway at CMSI HQ to design a Glitter Swoosh to complement ESPN’s Glitter Ball. While we continue to set the standard in remote production environments, we would appreciate lowered expectations in this regard.
